"Obscure Wines of California"
NEBBIOLO Vine Leaf
This event will be held at a stunning downtown location and will be presented by Matt Kettmann. A fifth generation Californian originally from San Jose, Matt Kettmann covers California’s Central Coast and South Coast for the 'Wine Enthusiast' magazine. He is also the senior editor of The Santa Barbara Independent, where he’s worked since 1999, has written for the New York Times, Time Magazine, Wine Spectator, and Smithsonian, and co-founded New Noise Santa Barbara, a music festival.
We will be focusing on 8 wines that may be new to you and are made from grapes growing in various vineyards in California. Harrington Wines range from Mendocino south to Paso Robles. Come and find out the history of why these grapes were chosen to be grown now and are expanding the list of varietals here in our wine state.
Harrington Wines is a small producer vinifying many of the exceptional obscure grapes of California as well as producing clean, stable wines made with low sulfite additions. Gentle, small-lot fermentations and an old-school, wood basket press help to fashion aromatic, focused, precise wines. The current portfolio includes such unusual varieties as Nebbiolo, Corvina, Trousseau, Lagrein, Aglianico, Alvarelhao, Montepulciano and Mission.
Find out how climate changes are now making it possible to grow “old world” varietals in parts of California that might not have been favorable for growing in the past.
Appetizers will be served!
