Beaches to Books 30-mile Route will start at 8:30 AM at Shoreline Park(east end, closest to Ledbetter). *
Beaches to Book 25-mile route will start at 9 AM at Alan Rd & Cliff Drive across from Arroyo Burro (Hendry's Beach)overflow parking - park on Alan, not beach lot.
This is a different route than the ones we usually take through Hope Ranch & through UCSB so check out the maps!
30 mile map: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/5166129148 There is a lot of flat riding so I threw in Flora Vista, the hills of Hope and there is always "The Challenge" 25-mile map: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/5160427615 This ride is mostly on flat bike paths but Hope Ranch does have a few hills! Climb Challenge Map: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/5160440209 You might have to get out of your saddle for this long & kinda steep hill.
The 8:30 group will do an easy 4 mile warm-up climbing up Flora Vista down through Elings to the new Los Positas path to meet the 9 AM start group at Alan Rd.
Everyone heads to Hope Ranch's black iron arch where we REGROUP. Climbers doing The Challenge go right, everyone else turns left to zig-zag up to Estrella and Cresta for another REGROUP. Together we will ride down beautiful Cresta Ave to the other side of Las Palmas for a very scenic loop past April's favorite property, then we take a steep downhill to the boundary gate (you'll have to pick up your bike to get over the short bar). Take Puente Dr right to the Obern Trail to the UCSB Library (books) and back on Obern Trail. Obern. The trail ends and we end up on Nueces Drive to turn right on N Arboleda for coffee at Java Station. From there it is either a couple of miles mostly on the bike path back to Alan or a few more miles with one last hill up Cliff back to Shoreline Park

The goal of the Cycling Committee is to hold weekly social meetup rides that are open to cyclists of all levels and abilities. Our rides are typically designed to have multiple start points and route segments and a destination that will allow us to relax and chat with our fellow Newcomers and guests after the ride. These rides are 'No Drop', so no riders will be left behind. Whether you are a beginning rider or a Tour de France champion come out and join us as there will usually be something for everyone.
