Ocean Beach Hike
8AM Carpool at Starbucks La Cumbre Plaza; 9AM at the trailhead
Surf Beach is a unique hike for Happy Hikers; it has no elevation. It's as easy or strenuous as any hiker wishes, determined solely by one's pace on the sand. It is one of the few truly unspoiled beaches in California, only open in the fall and winter to protect nesting birds through the summer.
While some distance from Santa Barbara, it has proved very popular with those who have made the trip and also affords the opportunity to have lunch in Buellton or Jalama Beach following the hike.
Starting just north of the Vandenberg AFB launch pads, we will hike 4 miles south and return. We typically walk 3-4 miles per hour. Great time of year for this hike.
Directions: For carpooling, meet at Starbucks La Cumbre Plaza before 8AM to carpool. If you prefer, you can meet us at the trailhead, which is about a one hour drive, at 9AM. We will go out for lunch afterwards.
Trailhead: Ocean Beach Park, 6851 Ocean Park Rd, Lompoc, CA 93436
