April Cycling – All New Ride!

Tour de Santa Barbara

Date and time: Sunday, April 9, meet at 10 AM.

Meet at Garden Street Lot on the Waterfronts

Bike route:  - Depart 10:15 AM along the waterfront bike path towards East Beach and the volleyball courts.

Photo stop at the Santa Barbara Cemetery (top 10 things to see in SB) overlooking the ocean and Montecito Bird Refuge.

On to see the Music Academy of the West, past Ty Warner's house down to the Four Seasons Biltmore and Butterfly Beach

Great coffee/pastry stop at Pierre LaFond bakery in upper Montecito!

We continue on with the beginning of a 600 foot climb to San Ysidro ranch for a quick look at this fantastic spot where Jack and Jacqueline honeymooned.

Then we finish the climb to 805 (feet) to Mountain drive. From here, we bike for approx. 5 miles on flat roads with almost no cars. This is a VERY scenic ride overlooking all of Santa Barbara.

We stop for a photo op at the Mission, then continue down State Street.

We will then go to the Funk zone for some "hydration" and relaxation. Lunch will be at Helena Avenue bakery (great bread makes great sandwiches). Wine is available at the Santa Barbara Wine shop adjacent to Helena, and beer at Figueroa Mountain brewery.

This ride is ideal for road bikes, and hybrids should be OK. Electric bikes are a plus. It is an intermediate ride, and if you haven't ridden 20 miles in the last month, it might be difficult.   Karen, the owner of the E bike Santa Barbara, has ebikes for $45. To reserve a bike, call 805–455–6208 or email ebikesantabarbara@cox.net

Distance: 16.7 miles round trip + 1,164 feet of climbing.

Here is an excellent map of the route, with elevation profiles:

16.7 miles, +1,164 feet of climbing (and 1,164 feet of descent, too!)

Helmets required.  Have water with you. Rain postpones. Questions: frank@maysoft.com
