Hike At a Relaxed Pace
(H.A.R.P.) When Sunday July 10, 2016 9:00 AM Where Stevens Park
Hike along San Roque Creek through a beautiful, oak and sycamore shaded park at the bottom of San Roque Canyon. An easy nature trail winds past bedrock mortars. These mortars are ancient holes that the Chumash Indians wore into the rock while grinding acorns into meal. Stop along the way in an open grassy meadow to take in views of Cathedral Peak.
Pets on leash are welcome.
Minimal elevation gain (150 feet). No rough terrain. No rush. Just nature, fun and conversation.
No need to register. Just show up. Downpour cancels, but we'll go ahead in light rain. Bring water and sunblock.
After the hike we'll head over to The Daily Grind on De La Vina St. for refreshments and a little more conversation.
Directions: From Highway 101, exit Las Positas Road. Drive 1.2 miles north to Calle Fresno on the left, shortly after crossing State Street. (Note that Las Positas Road becomes San Roque Road after crossing State Street.) Turn left on Calle Fresno and travel one block. Turn right on Canon Drive. Quickly turn right again into the posted park entrance. Park in the spaces provided. If they are full there is also on street parking.
