Brought to you by the Architecture and Design Committee

Experience the Getty Villa like never before. Join Newcomers and Graduates as we travel by luxury shuttle to the Getty Villa for a guided tour of the architecture and gardens.  Lunch is available in the restaurant for your purchase. A day full of art, history, architecture and fun. On the ride home your sommelier will treat you to a tasting of 4 of Napa Valley’s top wineries. Round up your friends and join the party.

A recreation of an ancient Roman country house, the Getty Villa offers a taste of life in the first century A.D.  The collection and changing exhibitions at the Getty Villa offer 7,000 years of ancient art, from the end of the Stone Age to the fall of the Roman Empire.

The Getty Villa houses the J. Paul Getty Museum's collection of approximately 44,000 Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities. Over 1,200 works are on view in 23 galleries devoted to the permanent collection, with five additional galleries for changing exhibitions. With objects dating from 6,500 B.C. to A.D. 400, the collection contains monumental sculptures as well as artifacts of everyday life.

$55 per person includes transportation, wine, organic snacks, admission

Note: We will meet at 9:45am across the street from the Hyatt, in front of El Escorial's Gate House. Since there will be wine-tasting on the bus on our return to Santa Barbara, we suggest you use a taxi or Uber.

The Architecture and Design Committee is researching noted Santa Barbara builder and developer Alex D'Alfonso.  Do you or someone you know live in one of his homes, especially on Diana Lane or another street where there is a cluster of his homes?  If so, please call Shelley Hurst at 650 796 3491.

Is your new home in Santa Barbara one of historical or architectural significance? Your architecture and design committee would really like to know about your home with the view of having a group of 20-30 SBNewcomers visit in the future, perhaps in conjunction with a home of similar significance. Our committee is able to engage local architects to attend an event at your home to put its unique features into perspective for our members. Let us know about your home by contacting the committee chair at architectureanddesign@sbnewcomers.org
