When: Saturday, December 15, 2018 9:00 AM
Where: Douglas Preserve/Arroyo Beach
Cross the foot bridge that leads up and through the windswept woods of Douglas Preserve as we make our way to the bluffs above Arroyo Burro Beach. From the far point, we can follow along the bluff and, if we're lucky, we’ll see a hang-glider leap from the cliff into the breeze that rises from below. As we leave the Preserve, we take a short walk down a residential street (past the Beach Boys' old compound) over to the Mesa Lane steps. Fortunately, we will go down the steps (not up), then along the beach as we make a loop back. The loop is 2 miles plus, so if we want a bit more walking we can continue down the beach. The 200-foot rise at beginning of the walk is a wide path that traverses an incline, fun to do at a Relaxed Pace.
After the hike, the Lighthouse Coffee (formerly The Good Cup) is 2 minutes up Cliff Drive located next to CVS at the corner of Cliff Drive and Meigs Road. A little hidden, but you can easily access it from the parking lot.
No need to register. Just show up. Downpour cancels, but we'll go ahead in light rain. Bring water and sunblock.
Directions: We will meet at the parking area Hendry's Beach (also known as Arroyo Burro Beach). You can find us at the far end of the auxiliary parking area - in simple terms, the parking spots most distant from the beach.
