The mission of the Santa Barbara Newcomers Club is to help you make new friends as you learn about your new home town and its multitude of social, cultural and civic activities. The club was founded in 1955, has more than 1000 current members and offers over 70 events and activities each month.
Who We AreThe Santa Barbara Newcomers Club is a social club that is designed to introduce newcomers to Santa Barbara. We can meet new friends and learn about our beautiful new community together. Our monthly calendar has many activities to choose from, and has something for everyone. Shared Interest groups/committees are developed as we grow, including book clubs, gardening, and current events. You can even start a new group based upon an interest you have. Exploring Santa Barbara events open the doors for you to performing arts, local heritage tours, architecture and design tours and visual arts events at various galleries and artist studios. Service to the Community events will expose you to the philanthropic work of Santa Barbara so you can find areas where you would like to serve the community…and so much more! One of our more active committees is called The Young Professionals, which hosts 4-8 activities each month geared toward members who are working. This committee concentrates on free, pay-as-you-go, and potluck-style events that happen on weeknights or weekends to fit most working professionals’ schedules. Please visit Our Activities page to learn more about the variety of activities that are currently active. Who's EligibleYou are eligible to join Newcomers within 18 months of moving to the area (Carpinteria, Summerland, Montecito, Santa Barbara, Goleta) and you plan on living in the Santa Barbara area for at least 6 months of the year. Initial membership is for two years. Many of our members opt to join for a third year, which requires active involvement in one or more of our activity committees. Our club is run solely by member volunteers and is not-for-profit. Our communication and payments are via our website, so some basic computer skills (e.g., shopped on Amazon) and a valid email account are necessary to become a member. The CostUpon joining, there is a non-refundable one-time membership fee of $150 per person, which covers two years of membership. Many of our activities are free but some do require a fee, when registering, to cover expenses of the event for those attending. How to JoinIt's simple! Click the Join Us link to the right. Join Us!
