Happy Hikers - Arroyo Burro from Stevens Park

  • February 02, 2018
  • 8:30 AM
  • Jesusita Trailhead

No Hike if Raining. Bring plenty of water.

This is a Friday 8:30am meetup – no need to register.

Arroyo Burro from Stevens Park – 8:30am.  The Arroyo Burro Trail is an historic trail, and with this variation we start a little farther down at Stevens Park.  From the upper (north) end of the park, we take the path along the San Roque Creek.  After roughly three quarters of a mile, the path meets the Jesusita Trail, which will take us to a fork which is the start of the Arroyo Burro Trail.  The Arroyo Burro winds up 1/2 mile of paved road before going by some horse stables and a few beautiful homes, before climbing up through some lovely views of the Goleta coastline.

The trail goes all the way up to the Camino Cielo for those interested, but our hike will only travel several miles and then back down.  Note: This is an out and back hike, so feel free to turn around at any point.  Hiking distance: roughly 5 miles.  Elevation gain: 1100 ft elevation. This hike is Moderate to Strenuous and will take about 2.5 hours.

DIRECTIONS:  Exit 101 at Las Positas and turn toward the mountains. Drive 1.2 miles to Calle Fresno on the left, shortly after crossing State Street.  Turn left and go one block to Canon Drive.  Turn right and quickly turn right again into the posted entrance to Stevens Park.   Park in the spaces that are roughly 200 yards into the park.

Hike Leaders: Dave Ellenberger and David Grace

Hope to see you there!
