Steve Hermann Hotels and Restaurants has created an old world European Grand Cafe designed to be an instant classic. Following on the heels of the meteoric success of L’Horizon Resort and Spa, the #1 Resort in California according to Conde Nast magazine, Somerset is our marquee restaurant brand. Absolutely timeless, the interior is both classic and modern simultaneously, with references to a “Grand Cafe" one would find in London or Paris. Boasting deep chesterfield sofas, polished zinc table tops, and 50’s modern vintage chairs and lighting, the space comfortably mixes mid century and art deco influences. Somerset's stunning interior is anchored by its courtyard featuring a large stone fireplace that draws you toward the patio where you are enveloped by a canopy of 100 year old olive trees that are situated in rubble stone planters. The whole feel of the patio was designed to be that of an old courtyard in Tuscany. That vintage feel throughout the restaurant is complimented by modern touches creating a symbiotic relationship to its main star—the cuisine.

Somerset’s kitchen is helmed by star Chef, Lauren Herman. Herman was the former chef de cuisine at the preeminent L.A. favorites, A.O.C. and Lucques. She has taken her vast experience to anchor the restaurant’s state-of-the-art kitchen with her unique focus on farm-driven California cuisine with light French and Italian influences. Though steeped in classical European techniques, Somerset represents the zeitgeist of culinary exploration and farm to table California dining. Somerset sources all produce within a 100 mile radius, and takes advantage of the bounty that is the Santa Barbara coast by utilizing local fish mongers daily deliveries, and livestock humanely raised on ranches in the hills above America’s Rivera. Joining Herman in the kitchen is her wife, Sous Chef Christina Olufson, former Executive Pastry Chef of the Lucques Group. Whether stopping by for one of our carefully crafted cocktails, or indulging in Somerset’s fine dining menu in the intimacy of the garden courtyard, a truly unique experience.
