Social Hiking At a Relaxed Pace
(S.H.A.R.P.) When Saturday, February 8, 2020 9:00 AM Where Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve and Seal Sanctuary
Come for an inspiring walk along the Carpinteria Bluffs with its variety of wildlife, coastal sage, and eucalyptus groves. Take in the beauty of the coastline, the Santa Ynez Mountains, and the Channel Islands. We will stop at the Seal Sanctuary overlook where we can delight in the community of seals at play or asleep. Hopefully, we will be lucky and be able to see some newborn seal pups! Then we will continue to the tar pits and to the edge of the campground.
OPTION 1: Those so inclined can turn around here, return to their cars, and meet for socializing at a local coffee spot.
OPTION 2: Up for more? We will continue through Carpinteria State Beach, turn up Linden Avenue, and join our fellow SHARP hikers for coffee.
This is a relaxing walk of approximately three miles round trip with some mild uneven terrain. Bathrooms are available. Binoculars are optional for better viewing of the seals. Bring water and sunblock.
Dogs are allowed on leash on the trails and the beach, but not at the Seal Rookery Overlook.
No need to register. Just show up. The walk is cancelled if it is raining.
Directions: Take 101 Freeway South. Exit at Bailard Avenue (Exit 85). Turn right and drive one block south toward the end of the road and beach. The parking lot is right there. Look for the red and white Newcomers sign.
