CYCLING - Santa Rosa (Out and Back)- 17, 34 OR 39 MILES

  • March 08, 2020
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • See event posting

The goal of the Cycling Committee is to hold weekly social meetup rides that are open to cyclists of all levels and abilities. Our rides are typically designed to have multiple start points and route segments and a destination that will allow us to relax and chat with our fellow Newcomers and guests after the ride. These rides are 'No Drop', so no riders will be left behind. Whether you are a beginning rider or a Tour de France champion come out and join us as there will usually be something for everyone.

This week's ride has several options and takes us along the Santa Ynez River over the rolling Santa Rosa Road. All routes are out-and-back with options for riding 17, 34 or 39 miles from Buellton to Lompoc. There is one starting point at the Park and Ride lot on Avenue of the Flags in Buellton just south of Route 246. Take the 101 to Buellton and get off on Exit 139 making a right turn onto Santa Rosa Rd. heading north toward Buellton and Rt. 101. The Park-and-Ride is on the right as Santa Rosa Rd. becomes Avenue of the Flags in about half a mile.

Check out the Ride Map.

Start time is 9:00 AM. It takes 45 minutes from Santa Barbara so please plan to arrive around 8:45.

For those who want a 16-mile ride, the turnaround point is at the entrance of Santa Rosa Park at the 8-mile mark, which stops just short of completing the first of two climbs of about 350 ft. For those who want to go to the end of Santa Rosa Road past all the wineries to where it meets Rt. 1, this will be a 34 mile ride with 2240 ft. of climbing. For those who want to go into Lompoc for a coffee stop, it will add 5 miles and about 300 ft. of climbing to the route. Many post-ride lunch spots are nearby including the highly regarded Industrial Eats.
