"Trade and Politics"

This is the first of 8+ monthly sessions planned for the 2017 calendar year.  Once again, we will be using the “Great Decisions”  briefing book prepared by the Foreign Policy Association as the basis for our discussions.  (We will also be providing links to relevant supplemental readings.)

Participants can purchase “Great Decisions 2017”  (either in hard copy or as an e-book) at www.fpa.org.  The briefing book can be pre-ordered now and will be shipped/released in early January.

Our first session will cover material in Chapter 2 of the briefing book, entitled “Trade and Politics.”

The author has summarized some of the relevant issues, as follows:

 “The U.S. political mood toward trade has gone sour.  One need look no further than the 2016 presidential contest for the popular narrative:  trade means that China wins, at America’s expense.  But do the numbers support that conclusion?"

Note:  In contrast to prior years, participants will need to register for each session that they wish to join.
