Happy Hikers - San Ysidro Falls

  • October 20, 2017
  • 8:30 AM
  • San Ysidro Trailhead

No hike if raining.  Bring plenty of water.

This is a Friday 8:30am meetup--no need to register.

SAN YSIDRO FALLS

The trail heads up picturesque San Ysidro Canyon. This steep, narrow upper canyon is filled with small waterfalls and pools, ending at a 60-foot waterfall (“Day Hikes SB”, R. Stone). We won't see a lot of water this time of year, but it is still a great hike and we will come back during the "rainy" season.  Hiking Distance: 3.7 miles round trip; Elevation gain: 1200 feet; Hiking Time: 2.5 hours (go at your pace).  Difficulty: Moderate-strenuous.

For those interested, the trail continues up to Camino Cielo Road.  This second part is very picturesque, but all uphill and another 2 miles!

DIRECTIONS: Meet at the San Ysidro trail head on Mountain Drive just east of San Ysidro Ranch. From either direction, exit Fwy 101 at San Ysidro Rd and turn toward the mountains. Go 1.0 mile to East Valley Rd (CA 192) and turn right.  Continue 0.9 miles to Park Lane and turn left. Park Lane is easy to miss--as you get near it, you’ll see a “San Ysidro Creek” sign on your right, then look for nine closely spaced Eucalyptus trees on your left.  You’ll turn left after the last one.) Go 0.4 miles and as Park Lane turns right, you veer left onto East Mountain Drive. The trailhead is 0.2 miles ahead on the right.  Park on East Mountain Drive.

 HIKE LEADER: Martina Kuhl.

 Hope to see you there!
