S.H.A.R.P ( Social Hiking at a Relaxed Pace)

July 13, 2019
9 AM

Several large restoration projects are happening in and around the lagoon including the creation of salt marsh islands and shallow areas for shorebirds, restoration of more than 6 acres of coastal sage scrub, coast live oak woodland and freshwater wetland habitats, and restoration of 2 acres of sand dune habitat. In addition there is a labyrinth, for those who want to meditate on the edge of the ocean.

We will start  our 3.5 mile hike in Isla Vista, quiet now that the students have left for the summer, and take a short walk along the campus to the cliffs along the ocean to Campus Point, and maybe a little further. On the return trip we will walk around the side of the Lagoon facing campus on one of several paths.  We might see pelicans, snowy egrets, cormorants, and herons.

Afterwards we will relax and chat at the Bagel cafe in Isla Vista.

Dogs are welcome. Bring sunscreen and a hat.

Meet at Perfect Park, across from the  Amazon Hub store at the corner of Embarcadero del Norte and Trigo Rd
