No hike if raining.
This is a long, strenuous hike so take plenty of water and a snack. The driving distance from Santa Barbara is around 19 miles and will take about 30 minutes to reach the trailhead but it is worth the trip. You can organize a car pool or meet us there at 8:30 am.
“Tequepis” Trail hike begins near Lake Cachuma and ascends the north side of the Santa Ynez Mountains behind Santa Barbara. The trail up offers spectacular views of the lake and valley, and there are broader stunning ocean vistas from the top. This is a strenuous 7.8-mile round trip hike with 2,400 feet of elevation gain. The hike is a steady incline but doable at your own pace. The hike will take ~4 hours to complete. After the hike we can meet at “Cold Springs Tavern” for refreshments.
To get to the trailhead: From Santa Barbara, take the 154 north toward Lake Cachuma. Continue 7.7 miles past Cold Springs Arch Bridge and turn left at the sign for Circle V Ranch. This is the next turnoff after a sign for Camp Rancho Allegre. If you reach the entrance for Lake Cachuma Recreation Area, you have gone half a mile too far. From the turnoff, take the road to the left and drive 1.3 miles to the parking lot at the end of the road outside Circle V Camp – Saint Vincent de Paul Camp.
