CYCLING

SANDPIPER-FERREN CANYON-CATHEDRAL OAKS

10 to 25+- MILES

Saturday, April 30th --  8:30AM - 12:00PM

The first part of this ride takes us to new and challenging territory. Ferren Canyon is a beautiful 7 mile in/out ride. The first part is very steep (15% slope) but after that it is more rolling with beautiful vistas of the valley and mountains. (you could ride or walk the beginning as you like). After the canyon ride we will regroup at Sandpiper golf course and do the loop around Cathedral Oaks, Marie Ignacio, UCSB and back to Anna’s for coffee and pastries at the Home Depot/CostCo shopping center.

Option 1: For those who would like to do this part of the ride, meet at Sandpiper Golf Course at 8:30AM. Park in the Home Depo/Costco shopping center near theaters and Anna’s bakery. It is a quick two mile ride to Sandpiper Golf course on Hollister. We will then go up Camino Real to Ferren Canyon Road returning on Vereda del Padre, and back to Camino Real through the Villa Embarcadero development .

Option 2: Park in the Home Depot/Costco shopping center, near the theaters and Anna’s. Ride up to Sandpiper Golf course on Hollister (easy 2 miles), be there at 10:00AM. We will then ride Cathedral Oaks to Marie Ignacio Trail down to Goleta, UCSB and back to the shopping center for coffee and pastries.

No ride map yet for Ferren Canyon-One of our Strava riders is urged to make one.

Yes, I Am Riding!

Helmets required! Bring lots of water. Ride Cancelled if raining

The goal of the Cycling Committee is to hold weekly social meetup rides that are open to cyclists of all levels and abilities. Our rides are typically designed to have multiple start points and route segments and a destination that will allow us to relax and chat with our fellow Newcomers and guests after the ride. These rides are 'No Drop', so no riders will be left behind. Whether you are a beginning rider, or a Tour de France champion come out and join us as there will usually be something for everyone. If you have suggestions for a route or would like to lead a ride, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note that there may be risks inherent in this activity, including risks associated with human interaction identified by local and national health authorities as to the contraction of COVID-19.  The Club takes the position that it is in no way liable for any injury or illness a participant may incur as a result of participation in an event the risks of which the participant knew or should have known.
