Hike At a Relaxed Pace

(H.A.R.P.)

When
Saturday, 28 May 2016
9:00 AM

Where
Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve and Seal Sanctuary

Two miles round trip. No elevation gain. No rough terrain. No rush. Just nature, fun and conversation.

No walk if it is raining. No need to register – just show up. Bring water and sunblock.  Binoculars optional (to better view seals.)

Enjoy 52 oceanfront acres with grasslands, coastal sage and eucalyptus groves.  Take in views from the Santa Ynez Mountains to the Channel Islands.  Stand on the cliff and delight in the community of harbor seals below.  Beach access is prohibited December through May to protect the harbor seal rookery, so we will observe from the bluff top.

Dogs allowed on leash on trails and beach, but not at the seal rookery or overlook.  May be best to leave them at home.

No picnic tables at the end, so do the Newcomers thing and invite some of your fellow walkers out for coffee when we return.

Directions: To get to the trailhead from Santa Barbara, take Highway 101 south and exit at Bailard Ave. Drive one block south (towards the ocean).  Park at the road's end.
