Hike At a Relaxed Pace
(H.A.R.P.) When Saturday July 23, 2016 9:00 AM Where Rocky Nook Park
This rustic park gives a real taste of what this area must have looked like before it was settled. The trees are lush and towering and the ground is strewn with boulders. It shows off the tranquil, woodsy beauty that separates Santa Barbara from other coastal California towns. We'll do our first mile on the trails overlooking Mission Creek. Coming back toward the parking area, we'll then go over the Mission Creek Bridge to explore a wilderness area with ruins from some of the buildings from the early 19th century Santa Barbara Mission, that most visitors to the Mission never see. We'll go back up across the road to the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum lot, to meet "Chad", the Museum's famous 72-foot whale skeleton. He is definitely one of this area's interesting sights. If we want to walk still more, we'll explore the woods behind the Museum.
Dogs on leashes welcome!
Minimal elevation gain. No rough terrain. No rush. Just nature, fun and conversation.
No need to register. Just show up. Downpour cancels, but we'll go ahead in light rain. Bring water and sunblock.
As the custom with H.A.R.P hikes, those who wish will gather at a local place for coffee afterwards.
Directions: Follow the hill up past Mission Santa Barbara. About 1/3 mile up the hill from the Mission, you'll see the Park entrance on your right. We'll meet in the lot by the entrance.
