White Mountain + “The Rock Garden”

A newer hike for Happy Hikers.  No hike if raining, no need to register-just show up!

  This will be a shorter hike but it is moderately steep.  It is not as steep as “Saddle Rock”, a hike we have done on the “Hot Springs trail”.  A short 25minute assent to the White Mountain peak, (@3800ft), (a view from the top!), is rewarded by spectacular views of the “Rock Garden”.  Many trails lead in and amongst the boulders and pines.  The views are breathtaking.  Bring your cameras!  We can linger at the top as long as is wanted.  There are extensions at the end of this hike for those who want to extend the distance and difficulty of the outing.  The trailhead is a parking space at the top of Gibraltar Rd where E Camino Cielo Rd splits to the right and left.  From 192, go north, (to the mountains) at Sheffield Reservoir on Mountain Dr.  Go @1/2 mile to where the street trifurcates, the middle road is Gibraltar Rd.  Go @1/2 miles to a stop sign and turn left on to the continuation of Gibraltar Rd.  Go @ 7miles up Gibraltar.  Note: Gibraltar takes a while, (15 minutes) to drive, so consider this in your planning as the hike is at 8:30am from the top of Gibraltar Rd.
