Brought to you by the Architecture and Design Committee

Chances are, if you are interested in architecture in Santa Barbara, you have heard the name ‘Shelton.’ Not long ago, the Architecture and Design committee hosted a walking tour, led by Jeff Shelton, where we visited a number of his amazingly whimsical projects in downtown Santa Barbara. For those of you who missed it, or who want more, we are revisiting the Ablitt's Tower - this time with the owner, Neil Ablitt, giving the tour of his charming property. Afterwards we will walk to the Santa Barbara Community Arts Workshop to see Jeff’s brother, David Shelton’s sculptured entry gates, and to learn about the Workshop, home of the Santa Barbara Solstice float designs. And to top it off, we will stroll over to Newcomer, Carla LeJade's home "El Zapato" one of the Shelton brothers most recent magical projects, to enjoy wine and snacks. For those of you who enjoyed the walking tour last time, this is the same home we ended the tour with before, only now it is finished!

The Architecture and Design Committee is researching noted Santa Barbara builder and developer Alex D'Alfonso.  Do you or someone you know live in one of his homes, especially on Diana Lane or another street where there is a cluster of his homes?  If so, please call Shelley Hurst at 650 796 3491.

Is your new home in Santa Barbara one of historical or architectural significance? Your architecture and design committee would really like to know about your home with the view of having a group of 20-30 SBNewcomers visit in the future, perhaps in conjunction with a home of similar significance. Our committee is able to engage local architects to attend an event at your home to put its unique features into perspective for our members. Let us know about your home by contacting the committee chair at architectureanddesign@sbnewcomers.org
