SBNC - Terms and Conditions

Welcome to the Santa Barbara Newcomers Club!

The Santa Barbara Newcomers Club (SBNC) is a private, volunteer-run social organization dedicated to helping new residents connect, explore, and feel at home in the Santa Barbara area.

We’re thrilled to have you join our community of friendly faces, shared experiences, and local adventures. As a member, you’ll enjoy opportunities to explore Santa Barbara, build lasting friendships, and contribute to our Club’s welcoming spirit.

Membership is open to adults (18+) who are new residents, within  2 years, of Santa Barbara, Montecito, Goleta, Summerland, or Carpinteria, and spend at least 6 months each year in the area. Membership lasts for two years from your date of joining. Dues are $150 per person for the two-year term and are non-refundable. Members are eligible for a third year if they have served on the board, as a committee chair, or been active in multiple committees during their two-year term. If you qualify for a third year, the dues are $85 for the extra year.

Overview of Club Governance

SBNC operates under a structured set of governing documents — including Bylaws, Policies and Procedures, Data Privacy Policy, and Event Waiver — which define how the Club functions and maintain its inclusive, welcoming culture.

Because SBNC is a private membership organization, these internal governance materials are available to active members through our members-only portal. This ensures that Club operations, volunteer information, and event logistics remain secure and current.

SBNC’s leadership team regularly reviews and updates our policies to ensure the Club continues to operate with transparency, integrity, and respect for our community.

Santa Barbara Newcomers Club Membership Agreement

Effective October 2025

1. Purpose and Participation

You agree to support SBNC’s mission to promote friendship and aid the social, cultural, and philanthropic orientation of newcomers. Participation is voluntary, and members are expected to uphold SBNC’s welcoming spirit with this Code of Conduct:

  • Members agree to treat all Club members, hosts, and guests with kindness and respect, and avoid demeaning, discriminatory or harassing speech or other similar behaviors.

  • Members agree to be honest and truthful in all interactions with other members and guests and when acting on behalf of the Club.

  • Members agree to represent the Club in a respectful and dignified manner.

2. Event Attendance

You are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of curated social events which promote getting to know fellow Club members while familiarizing ourselves with the community and heritage of Santa Barbara.

SBNC is a non-profit organization, and as such, event fees are based on covering the costs to host the events.  Some Club events are free of charge or pay-as-you-go, while some require payment at the time of registration to attend. You agree to complete payment for event registrations in a timely manner, or forfeit their participation in the event.

Events are primarily open to members only. From time to time, alumni or guests are permitted to attend. Alumni and guests attending SBNC events agree to the same waiver, release, and conduct standards as members.

3. Event Waiver and Release of Liability

By attending any SBNC event, you acknowledge and agree to assume all risks, including injury, illness, or property damage. Members agree to waive and release the Santa Barbara Newcomers Club, its officers, and volunteers from liability, and agree to indemnify and hold them harmless.

4. Alcohol and Cannabis Policy

In no circumstances are alcoholic beverages to be served to any minor or to any person who is or appears to be impaired. Marijuana and related products are strictly prohibited at Newcomers' events.

5. Health and Medical Consent

You certify that you are in good health and physically able to participate in SBNC events. You consent to receive emergency medical care if needed during Club activities and accept full responsibility for resulting costs.

6. Media and Communications Consent

You grant SBNC permission to use photographs, video, or likenesses from Club events for communications and marketing, and release SBNC from claims related to such use.

7. Data Privacy

SBNC collects and uses personal data only for administration, event management, and communications. Your data will not be sold or shared commercially. You agree to use club directories and communication tools responsibly.

8. Acknowledgment and Agreement

By submitting this form electronically, you certify that you are 18 years or older,  and have read and agree to this Membership Agreement and the governing documents of SBNC.
