Join us at Hendry's Beach (aka Arroyo Burro Beach County Park) every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:45. We walk the beach, visit, make new friends and catch up with old friends, spot whales and dolphins and get fresh air and exercise. Some of us walk fast, and some of us stroll. Then we gather at the picnic tables and visit some more. Sometimes there is food to share.

Contact Karen Kaiser (karenkaiser@comcast.net) with any questions.

Hendry's Beach/Arroyo Burro is just west of the intersection of Cliff Drive and Las Positas Rd. (exit 100 on freeway). There is a large parking lot. We meet at the top of the stairs next to Boathouse at Hendry's Beach restaurant, 2981 Cliff Dr., Santa Barbara. The restaurant is located at the end of the parking lot right next to the ocean.

    • East Beach Grill, 1118, E. Cabrillo Blvd.

Please join our group of 30 to 50 East Beach Walkers, consisting of Newcomers, Graduates, and longtime Santa Barbara residents, as we walk along the waterfront.

There is no need to register, just join us in the parking lot on the west side of East Beach Grill, 1118, E. Cabrillo Blvd., to walk along the bike path from the grill to Sterns Wharf and back again, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Please note that, with the close of the East Beach Grill, on January 1, 2018, the East Beach Walking Group will transition to the Stern's Wharf Walking Group and the walks will start and end at Char West, near the Ice Cream Shop. Parking is free at that time of day.

walkingWe start walking promptly at 8:05 am, and walk at our own pace, while visiting with fellow walkers. It is about 3 miles to the pier and back, or 3 1/2 if you walk to the end of the pier, and takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending upon your pace.

Many stay after the walk to enjoy conversation at East Beach Grill upon our return. Coffee and food are available for purchase from the Grill. It is requested that those who stay and sit at a table, even if you do not order food or beverage, leave a tip of least a dollar.

Parking is free until 10 am, except on holidays.

Everyone Welcome... Runners, Run/Walkers, and Walkers!

Due to the poor air quality Striders will be cancelled till the condition improve. Look here for updates and stay safe.

We meet every Saturday at 8am to run, jog, or walk together and then go for breakfast!

The routes we take allow you to go as far or as short a distance as you wish. We typically run out and back (for about an hour or so)... some go 4 miles, others 6 or 7 miles, and some go even farther since they're training for full or half marathons.

We typically meet at Stearns Wharf by the restrooms near the Dolphin Fountain.  Look for the BRIGHT PINK hat! Park on Anacapa Street and walk to the wharf.

Breakfast afterwards at Helena Avenue Bakery, 131 Anacapa St!

    See you there!

If you are joining SB Striders for the first time, please email us (sbstriders@sbnewcomers.org) so we don't leave you behind if you arrive late.

We vary the starting locations and routes, so please remember to check the Newcomers calendar, the Santa Barbara Striders Facebook page, and/or Meetup for details.

Social Hiking At a Relaxed Pace (S.H.A.R.P.)

    When: Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017
    9:00 AM
    Where:   Elings Park

A special midweek hike at Elings Park, the nation’s largest privately funded public park. We will start on the intriguing Sierra Club Trail, consisting of easily accessed pathways winding through brush and meadows and offering spectacular ridge-line views of Hendry's, Hope Ranch, Douglas Preserve and the Mesa plus, looking north, views of downtown and the Santa Ynez Mountains. Then we will cross over to the less-wild part of Elings to visit the Veterans’ Memorial Walk.

Total hike distance about three miles. Elevation gain is a published 300’, with most of the gain occurring in the first 10 minutes or so of the hike.

No need to register. Just show up. Restrooms are available. Bring water and sunblock. Downpour cancels. Hiking in light rain will depend on the trail conditions. After the hike, we will meet nearby to socialize.

Sorry, no dogs are permitted in Elings unless they've been enrolled in the park’s $125 “epdog” membership program.

Directions: From Las Positas Road (Route 225)  turn onto Jerry Harwin Parkway and follow it uphill to a cul de sac at the top. Park in the cul de sac and gather at the nearby Newcomers sign. See you Wednesday, December 20th!

    • 8:30 AM
    • Buena Vista Trailhead

No hike if raining.  Bring plenty of water.

This is a Friday 8:30am meetup – no need to register.

Buena Vista to Saddle Rock – 8:30am. This hike begins at the Buena Vista trailhead on Park Lane and follows the Old Pueblo Trail to the San Ysidro Trail.  It then connects to Saddle Rock on the McMenemy Trail and loops back on the Girard Trail to McMenemy and old Old Pueblo, returning to the trailhead at Buena Vista. The distance is about 5.3 miles and takes approximately 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Go at your own pace and there are good turn back points such as at the interconnection of the McMenemy and Girard Trails (which would make an approximate 4 mile hike). This is a very scenic trail (total elevation gain 1,100 ft.) that goes through a small Eucalyptus grove and offers views of the ocean, canyons, valleys and creeks. Difficulty: Moderate-Strenuous.

Directions: From the 101, go north, toward the mountains, on San Ysidro to Hwy 192.  Go right on 192 for 0.8 miles, then take a left on Park Lane.  (Park Lane is easy to miss.  As you get near, you’ll see a “San Ysidro Creek” sign on your right, then look for nine closely spaced Eucalyptus trees on your left.  You’ll turn left after the last one.)  Go 0.3 miles and bear to the right to stay on Park Lane at the Mountain Drive junction.  Go 0.6 miles further on Park Lane to the Buena Vista trailhead on the left. (Note: you will pass the Old Pueblo trailhead sign at 0.5 miles-the hike’s end point). There is good parking before and after the trailhead.

     HIKE LEADER: Bo Kite

    Hope to see you there!
