The Arlington houses one of the most magnificent theater organs in the country.

Spend a morning experiencing the sights and sounds of the Wonder Morton. Stand between the pipes and feel the music.

The Wonder Morton was built by the Robert Morton Organ Company of Van Nuys, CA in 1928 for a movie theater in Jersey City. The organ, all 20 tons and 7,000 pieces, arrived back in California, to Santa Barbara, in sad shape in 1986.  Over the next two years, more than 30,000 hours of donated labor cut the estimated $250,000 cost of restoration in half.

Do you know how to play an organ?  Please send an email to the Local Heritage Event Chair if you are interested in playing the Wonder Morton during the tour.

Docent-Led Tour: Highlights of the SB Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection

Join us as a docent from our wonderful local art museum leads us on a tour of their permanent collection. In celebration of the museum’s 75th anniversary, this installation highlights some of its most celebrated works of art as well as several of the most exciting gifts and acquisitions in the areas of modern and contemporary art, photography, and the arts of Asia.

This eclectic group of objects, which illustrates the breadth and diversity of the permanent collection, includes favorites such as the sensual life-size bronze Bather Putting Up Her Hair (1932) by Aristide Maillol; the haunting Yuan dynasty Seated Luohan (13th century), whose parted lips give the compelling illusion of speech; and the important, early painting by the famed Bay Area Figuration artist Richard Diebenkorn. The Ridley-Tree Gallery also showcases favorites of 19th-century Impressionism, such as the beloved Villas in Bordighera (1884) by Claude Monet, along with the long-term loans from the Armand Hammer Foundation and the collection of Michael Armand Hammer.
