The Santa Barbara Newcomers
Club may be just what you are looking for.
The
Santa Barbara Newcomers Club was founded in 1955 and has grown with time
to over 400 members. We are a non-profit organization, an active part of
the Santa Barbara and surrounding communities, and are recognized as one
of the premiere organizations of its type in the country.
Purpose.
The mission of SB Newcomers is to help you make new friends and to learn
about the many social, cultural, and civic opportunities in this wonderful
community. Members volunteer to organize and run all sorts of activities
for other Newcomers and themselves. The best way to get to know people
is to become involved with one or more of our Activity Committees and to
participate in their monthly, weekly, and even more frequent gatherings
and events.
Activity
Committees. We have about 30 committees that plan various activities
each month, and there is something for virtually everyone. A monthly Newsletter
announces and describes all of the activities scheduled and provides detailed
information on time, location, cost (if any), and making reservations for
events with limited numbers. There are activities during the day, in the
evening, on weekdays, and on weekends. All events and activities are open
to men and women, singles and couples. Members are encouraged to join one
or more of these committees, to help plan events, and to participate in
them. In this way you can get to know more people and more quickly become
an active part of the SB community. Follow the Activities link above and
take a look at the different types of events that occur each month.
Membership.
We are a friendly group of people who are all new to the Santa Barbara
area. We come from varied locales and backgrounds but all share a love
for our new hometown. We range in age from 20 to 80-something and come
from as close as Ojai and as far away as Australia. We are single and married,
working and retired. What we have in common is a desire to meet people
and to get to know beautiful Santa Barbara.
Joining
Newcomers. You are eligible to join SB Newcomers within 18 months of
moving to the Santa Barbara area (including Goleta to Carpinteria). You
initially belong for a two-year period but have the option to extend for
a third year, if you have participated in one or more Activity Committees
for two six-month terms. Go to our Join page
for more details.
