Where
San Ysidro Trail

Ever wonder what a Santa Barbara front-country hike is like? Now is your chance to find out! We will hike a mile up the easier first half of San Ysidro Trail, a favorite of our Happy Hikers Committee, and turn around before the ascent gets steep. The trail through lush, wooded San Ysidro Canyon is edged by a tumbling creek. Bonus: We will end our hike with a walk on the San Ysidro Ranch trail easement for a peek at the San Ysidro Ranch, the grande dame of Santa Barbara hotels, where the Kennedys honeymooned and Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh were wed.

Total hike distance: about two and a half miles. Dogs welcome.

No need to register. Just show up. Downpour cancels, but we'll go ahead in light rain. Bring water and sunblock.

After the hike, we will meet nearby for coffee and conversation.

DIRECTIONS: Meet at the San Ysidro trailhead on Mountain Drive, just east of San Ysidro Ranch. From either direction, exit Fwy 101 at San Ysidro Road and turn toward the mountains. Go 1.0 mile to East Valley Road (CA 192) and turn right.  Continue 0.9 miles to Park Lane and turn left. (Park Lane is easy to miss.  As you get near, you’ll see a “San Ysidro Creek” sign on your right, then look for nine closely spaced eucalyptus trees on your left.  You’ll turn left after the last one.) Go 0.4 miles and as Park Lane turns right, you veer left onto East Mountain Drive. The trailhead is 0.2 miles ahead on the right.  Park on East Mountain.
