CYCLING – From Tucker’s Grove, riding the Goleta Canyons

Date Saturday January 14, 2017 9:30 AM

Start point: Tucker’s Grove Park, Turnpike and Cathedral Oaks

Our January Newcomer’s cycling outing will explore “The Goodland”, riding west along Cathedral Oaks (CO) outbound, going into some of the interesting, pretty flat canyon roads full of citrus and avocado farms, with a coffee stop at Sandpiper Golf Course.  On the way back, we’ll turn right off CO at Los Carneros and then cycle through several neighborhoods and the connecting bike/pedestrian bridges that link them.  This is the North Goleta Bike Route on the bike maps.

Anyone not wanting to do some or all of the canyons can easily skip them.  They are in and out, about 1.5 miles each way.  They are not at all hard, just scenic.  On CO, there is only one hill, at Dos Pueblos HS.  It is easy to turn around at any time, just let us know.  Riders can do anywhere from 15 to 30 miles round trip on this ride.  Park in Tucker’s Grove, which is on the North side of CO at Turnpike.  If you come north on Turnpike, the park is straight ahead once you get to the intersection with CO.  CO has wide bike lanes and not a lot of traffic.  It becomes very scenic (and green) the farther west you ride.

Rain postpones, helmets required. Questions: bill@kyleassociates.com or 818-983-6227
