MAY CYCLING – OJAI.  SATURDAY 5/7/16. 9 or 9:30 AM start, depending on where you begin.

We’ve done Ojai before, but this is somewhat different.

You can do either a 30 or a 20 mile round trip ride, depending on where you start. The 30 mile ride starts in Ventura. The bike path begins at Rex Street. Get off the 101 at the Main St, Ventura exit. Park in the parking lot to the right after the bridge. If there is no room, go back over the bridge and park on the side of the road. After parking, head into Ventura on Main St, turn left at Olive, turn left on Rex. We’ll meet there NLT 9 AM.

The 20 mile ride starts at the Casitas Vista exit off Highway 33, heading to Ojai. 101 South to 33 North towards Ojai. Exit where the highway is ending at Casitas Vista Road (CVR). Turn right upon exiting on CVR, back alongside the highway on CVR and turn right under the Freeway and park under the overpass. There are restrooms close by, in Foster Park. The riders that start in Ventura will be at CVR by 9:30 and we can head off to Ojai as a group.

From SB, plan on 30 minutes to parking in Ventura and 45 minutes to parking at CVR.

From Casitas Vista, the bike trail is 10 miles to Ojai.  We actually won’t get into Ojai itself, we’ll go to Meiners Oaks. We’ll stop for refreshments at a really funky place. Check out www.farmerandcook.com. This is a very scenic ride. It’s a continual grade uphill to Ojai, about 3% and in some places 5%.  Not hard.  Coming back is all downhill. There are two ways down, either back down the bike path OR on Santa Ana Road with very few cars. You fly!  It’s on the other side of the Ventura River. I’ll be doing that.

For you ambitious bikers, start at Bates Road/Rincon, if you like, and join us at Rex St at 9.  That will give you another 27 miles round trip.
