NO HIKE IF RAINING. Remember to take water.  No need to register, just show up.

ROMERO CANYON – 8:30 AM-- Hiking Distance for the whole trail hike: 3.4 miles round trip.  You don't have to go the entire distance to enjoy the hike, you can always turn around and go back!   Join us and do what is comfortable for you!   Elevation gain: 1400 feet. Hiking Time 2.5 hours or less (go at your pace). Difficulty: Moderate-Strenuous. Co-leader sweeps the trail, Hikers look out for each other, No one left behind.  We will walk up the beautiful, well-shaded Romero Canyon trail to Old Romero Rd.  Most hikers elect to return on gently sloping road with spectacular views.  At the junction with Old Romero Rd, energetic hikers can extend the hike up the trail toward East Camino Cielo Rd. This is an option for anyone interested in even more spectacular views.   DIRECTIONS: Meet at the Romero Canyon trail head on Bella Vista Rd.  Exit Fwy101 at Sheffield Dr (Exit #92) in Montecito [Sheffield is a LEFT LANE EXIT coming from Santa Barbara], turn toward the mountains and follow signs to Sheffield. About 1.4 miles after exiting the 101, Sheffield ends at E Valley Rd (CA-192). Turn left and then immediately right on to Romero Canyon Rd. Continue up Romero Canyon, bearing right to avoid entering Lilac Lane.  One mile after first entering Romero, turn right on to Bella Vista Dr. and go .3 miles to the trailhead on your left. During the week there is ample parking along the road. HIKE LEADER:   Bo Kite,roykite2004@yahoo.com; +Richard Haro richardharo@icloud.com, Deborah Rodgers, Donna Haro, Neil Polans, & Susan Wong.

If you are uncertain about the difficulty of our hikes, you might want to begin with Jesusita Trail to Moreno Ranch.  It is the easier of our hikes, with less elevation gain.  But all of our hikes have significant stretches with uneven footing.  Happy Hikers events are open to graduates of Newcomers, visitors of Newcomers, and members of the general public.  Our hikes feature good conversations and the opportunity to make new friends.
