    -Includes finger foods and wine/drinks-

    Opens July 25th

Join us on Tuesday, August 22nd for a behind-the-scenes look into the Braille Institute. We'll meet in the courtyard and then go on a guided tour of Braille's amazing facilities.

The tour will include the newly remodeled kitchen where we'll be given a demonstration from the Kitchen Confidence Program, the Technology Room where we'll learn how the latest mainstream and adaptive devices are used, and the library -- one of the core services of the Braille Institute that provides numerous resources for the blind and visually impaired.

After the tour, we'll return to the courtyard for small appetizers and wine/beverages where we can socialize, ask questions, and learn about volunteer opportunities.

*Giving Back* presents the Santa Barbara School of Squash Clinic

On Saturday, September 9, come meet the amazing people behind the Santa Barbara School of Squash (SBSOS).  You may be asking "what the heck is the School of Squash?" Or, if you are like me, you may not be familiar with squash and you're thinking of a delicious winter vegetable. In fact, squash is a popular sport played on a court with rackets and a hollow rubber ball.  The SB School of Squash is a small, local nonprofit organization that combines academic tutoring, squash instruction, and mentoring for disadvantaged youth in our city

At this event, you will get to hear from the people who make this rewarding program happen, and from some of the students themselves. Following the short presentation, the squash coaches will teach us about the game right there on the courts.

As if that wasn't enough, continental breakfast is included with the presentation and all attendees can have full access to the SB Athletic Club for the rest of the day! (So feel free to bring your gym bag or even just look around this great facility.)

Check out the SBSOS website ahead of time to see what it's all about and to learn about volunteer opportunities: http://www.sbsos.org

This beautiful modernist retreat, set in the Montecito foothills, is now a far cry from the original adobe house that functioned as a lemon-packing plant decades ago. Inside the residence, large amounts of natural light, stone floors, and gallery white walls provide the backdrop for the owners' extensive contemporary art collection. The property also houses a large working artist studio. A mixture of drought tolerant plants and rock beds in formalist geometric patterns provide stylish surroundings that extend and reinforce the modern design. The roots of Nancy and Michael Giffords’ stunning, light-filled Montecito home filled with contemporary art evolved from a simple adobe packing shed on a fifty acre lemon orchard that was part of a turn of the century estate. After two years of renovation the couple finally began the fun task of decorating.  Their collection evolved organically out of Nancy’s immersion in the local art scene. After two years of renovation and visiting studios in Santa Barbara the house features the work of more than sixty artists. The pieces on display include whimsical drawings, bold paintings, quirky assemblages and both indoor and outdoor sculpture. VALET PARKING WILL BE PROVIDED. CARPOOLING IS ALSO ENCOURAGED.
