Events and Outings

Gardening meets monthly for events where members can learn about and enjoy gardens, plants and flowers. Typical events include tours of local gardens, talks by horticulturists, visits to nurseries, or “hands on” flower arranging, followed by light refreshments and the opportunity to socialize. Decorating carriages for Fiesta is a popular event.

.Visual Arts meets monthly at a variety of venues in and around Santa Barbara in order to expand our awareness of Santa Barbara as a destination community for the visual arts. During the past year we have met at artist studios, the private homes of art collectors, art galleries and art museums.
Performing Arts brings a wide variety of performing arts events to the attention of Newcomers so they may become familiar with the diverse spectrum of what Santa Barbara has to offer.
Out of the Box plans unusual events not covered by other committees.
Outdoor Fun
Bicycling organizes bike rides for cyclists of all ages and abilities.
The committee plans the route and leads the group, often including a stop for refreshments.
Hiking organizes monthly hikes of 2 to 3 hours duration, mostly in the Santa Ynez mountains. The hikes are usually of moderate difficulty. A place for lunch after the hike is also identified for those who wish to join in.
Tennis is forming playing groups with moderate to advanced skill levels. Currently there is a Sunday morning mixed doubles group.

Stride by the Tide meets every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning at Hendry’s Beach. Participants walk along the beach for an hour or so, at varying paces, and afterward usually meet at the Brown Pelican Restaurant for coffee and conversation.

Sunset Walks meets every Wednesday evening to walk for 30 to 45 minutes and often meet at a restaurant afterward for a drink, maybe food, conversation, and a glorious sunset.

Golf on weekdays is for “par challenged” golfers. Participants play at two different 9 hole Goleta courses each week on a regular schedule: Ocean Meadows on Tuesday (regulation length) and Twin Lakes on Friday (a short course). They play to enjoy the game and the camaraderie.  New Newcomers are always welcome.

Walking the Waterfront meets every Monday and Friday morning at East Beach. We walk along the beach for an hour so, at varying paces, and afterward we meet at the East Beach Grill for breakfast or a beverage and conversation.

New Member Services  Welcoming greets potential members of Newcomers at the orientation meetings each month at Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort. Every three months the committee hosts an afternoon coffee for new Newcomers at a member's home.

*The activities, illustrated here and on other activities pages, are snapshots of activities at a given time.  Activities offered depend on the interests and desires of the members. As such they are dynamic.  New activities are regularly formed and existing activities sometimes abandoned.  Any member may start a new activity by contacting the VP-Activities and volunteering to be part of a new committee.
